Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro 2nd Attack Review

Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro 2nd Attack goes back to Senpai, but in this season he gains the confidence to actually enjoy himself more. Here is our full Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro 2nd Attack Review.

The season was aired in the Winter 2023 anime season. Don’t Toy with Me Miss, Nagatoro 2nd Attack was animated by OLM and based on the manga of the same name. OLM is also known for anime like Odd Taxi, Inazuma Eleven, Pokemon, and Komi Can’t Communicate.

I absolutely loved the 1st season, so I expected nothing less than more greatness but also more of the same to be honest, I got surprised and we got actual big steps into the character development and it turned a lot more into a romance anime that explores the relationship between Nagatoro and Senpai.

Don’t get me wrong, some of the main elements like Nagatoro toying with Senpai and trying to not take anything seriously are still there, but something changed, she tries to hide her feelings for Senpai more and tries to hide them from her friends who clearly see through her. They slowly but surely do a lot more that gets Senpai and Nagatoro closer in a romantic way, something I didn’t expect to see in this 2nd season but it was a nice change.

Nagatoro already was kinda and caring about Senpai, but now she goes full in and helps him become a better person and even tries to boost his confidence. Somewhere early on Nagatoro helps Senpai out with lenses and loses his glasses, this seemed like a nice 1 moment, but when he lost his glasses he felt like a brand new character, kinda losing his biggest charm, but he did gain a bit more of a “Chad” persona what Nagatoro names it.

Early on, Senpai says he is bad with faces, which perfectly explains why most characters don’t have eyes and face details, even some of the characters they interact with. It was nice to see when some people finally did get a face, it made it clear straight away that he actually had made some friends that Senpai has regular contact with.

I wanna talk more about its story, but in every episode, there is so much character development, that everything is basically a pretty big spoiler, even what I just said already is kinda riddled with game-changing spoilers that don’t really seem like it, but if you start caring just a little bit about the characters it can be a bit annoying to already know because everything was a surprise to me.

After a while, the story did get a bit more boring and needed something new, this is when the new art club member joined in the 10th episode and it gave the show the new energy that was needed, a “rival” for Nagatoro. The cousin of the class presidents joins the art club and gets to spend more time with Senpai while Nagatoro gets less time due to her joining a new club.

This season became less about toying with senpai and more about exploring their care for each other without them admitting to it. It was a breath of fresh air and everything just felt right, from the new characters to the new stories that they brought it was just perfectly unexpected in a good way.

Visually there was nothing really wrong with it, but it wasn’t something that was game-changing, every character still had a cool look and the new way they animated Nagatoro in her black cat form was funny to see standing around at times.
